1776 Challenge Cup DC

Legazy has again secured the faith of the international startup community in selecting South Africa’s finest startups. In association with the Global Entrepreneurship Network and its local chapter SEA Africa, Legazy was tasked with sourcing a South African startup to represent the country at 1776 Challenge Cup. 1776 Challenge Cup is a global competition for the world’s most promising startups tackling complex, regulated challenges to share their vision on a global stage, engage with industry leaders, and win grand prizes. 1776 started Challenge Cup four years ago to discover the most promising, highly scalable startups poised to solve complex challenges across borders, regulated industries and emerging technologies.

Legazy put forth four startups from its portfolio that met the requirements and produced a strong mixture of Fin-tech, e-commerce and convenience. The startups were Slide a disruptive peer-to-peer money transaction app; CommuScore using technology for good and building credit profiles to those who don’t have through aggregating an individuals informal financial behavior in stokvels; Minderz a pet-sitting app for pet owners and CloudSlip paperless receipt storing system allows users to receive receipts directly from the point of sale.

The panel decided on CommuScore to represent South Africa at 1776 Challenge Cup this November 13th-17th in Washington D.C against 73 other countries. We look forward to the fantastic experience ahead and will be routing CommuScore on in D.C.

Legazy has differentiated itself and has gained the trust of the best tech startups in the country due to being able to provide several platforms for multiple startups at a time to be fully sponsored for to attend/compete and exhibit. Legazy takes a further step in ensuring the startup gains tangible value with intimate engagement with global technology leaders Legazy has formed ties with to integrate the startups into the economy; scale their consumer reach or train abroad.

We are relatable, accessible and hone relationships with our startups that organizations with bureaucratic structures cannot. Legazy has a staff dedicated at building strong, personalized relationships with all our startups elected into its portfolio, as we believe and are invested in their potential.

Having achieved much success in African startup sourcing and distributing to the likes of Building Global Innovators accelerator and securing 20 entrepreneurs sponsorship to exhibit at Web Summit in Lisbon at the beginning of November we have put our skin to the game and achieved far beyond our expectations.
